Today, I would just like to take a look at a devotional that I receive monthly called Our Journey. It’s entry is for January 1st. I thought you might all like this one. I got a lot out of it and have reflected back to it today as well.
Who Are You?
As you look ahead to your life in 2008, I want to ask you; Who are you? What is your identity? The power of the apostle Paul’s life was that he knew who he was. In Titus 1:1, he introduced himself as, “Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ.” It is a powerful thing to walk through life with a firm confidence about who you are.
One of the most direct attacks of the enemy is against our identity. Satan tries to confuse us about who we really are. If he gets this done, he can accomplish a lot of destruction in our spirits. Satan invests a lot of energy in trying to deceive God’s children to live apart from who they really are. He wants us to live in defeat. Every time we try to take a step forward with God, he wants to throw our failures in our face and say, “You’re nothing but a disappointment. God’s not very fired up about you anymore.” That’s a lie and a direct attack on your identity. Know this:
You are not your performance; you are not your job.
You are not your net worth.
You are not who your worst critic says you are.
It matters not how lonely or popular you may feel; you are not your social network.
You are not your greatest physical flaw.
You are known and loved by the Creator of the universe.
These are some of the things God says about you:
You have been bought with a price, and you belong to God (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
You have been adopted as God’s child (Ephesians 1:5).
You have been redeemed and forgiven of all your sins (Colossians 1:13-14).
You can be assured that “all things work together” for your good (Romans 8:28).
You cannot be seperated from the love of God (Romans 8:38-39).
You can find grace and mercy in time of need (Hebrews 4:14-16).
You are God’s “workmanship” (Ephesians 2:10).
In 2008, you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13).
Tell yourself the truth: I am not going to listen to Satan’s evil accusations anymore. I am who God says I am.
-JAMES MACDONALD
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, who you have from God? You are not your own. 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
Prayer: Father, my identity is in You. I am nothing, have nothing, and will become nothing apart from Your plan for my life. I put 2007 behind me, with all its failures and disappointments, and embrace the life You have planned for me in 2008. Help me to believe where I have doubted and embraced Your Word for my life.
